I think I will stick to Tom who makes everything by hand.

Resurrecting this thread as I was planning to put one of my cars back on the road after it had been SORN'd for just over a year. In the time I hadn't been driving it (other than up & down the lane every so often to keep things from seizing up etc), the sills developed a fair amount of rot along the length of them on both sides. Other than that, there's very little that would need doing in order for the car to get a new MOT. Has anybody bought and welded on these sill panels from this supplier? Can they be recommended? If not, which other supplier would be the best to use?

This would be nice to know in the future. As my skills on my tourer are starting to bubble.

Having done a bit more trawling through the site, it seems that the alternative options are either to cut the sills off a scrap car and get them welded to mine, or buy the side of a car brand-new from Rimmers at a cost of over £300 and cut the bottom section of those. So any feedback/expert opinion about these £49 panels would be very welcome.

I don't know anything about the panels but Tom Hobbs makes and fits sill sections cheaply.

Hmm, it should be possible to courier the parts over here. Would you mind sending me a PM with his contact info please Dawn? Assuming he's ok with getting trade enquiries, that is - I've not heard of him before. Or is he already on here under a different moniker ...?

No, Tom is a panel beater, I don't know if he could make parts without having the car there. He did my 1.8 and it was £100 a side to cut out the rot make new sections weld in and paint them. He's done one or two club cars including trikey's 1.8. He might be able to make what you need and send them, but I would imagine he'd need a 75 there to make the pattern from? You could certainly ask him.

Thanks for that Dawn. I'm trawling through as many places as I can closer to home to see if I can find anyone at all who's willing to take on a welding job on a car. Seems they're few & far between - apparently the cost of insurance for that sort of work is prohibitive, so not one of the mechanics I would usually approach will do it any more.

Toms work is well worth a trip over here for, I honestly have not seen anyone better.

Sadly this wouldn't be possible - both cars are out of MOT having been off the road over a year, and they won't be able to get an MOT to be able to drive them to the ferry without having the welding work done ...
