clean and polished- first of new year
nice dry day here in the north east so i've spent several happy hours cleaning and waxing my baby- looks great, used a cheap wash (obviously by hand) and a 'mer' polish- just wondering what wax or polish others use, as i've seen some photos and the cars look better than mine!!!!!

Do you have any pics fella or was the shine too much for the camera?, it has been a good day in the south today so I think I may have give my honey a going over whilst natures light bulb is still on.
Cheers Tony

I used mer products for years, in fact still use their window cleaner, and black plastic cleaner/coating (for SWMBO's Clio, my 75 only has chrome-mmmmmmmmm), but now use Meguiar's stuff. I've ditched the sponge, and use a sheepskin mitt, and the two bucket method for washing, and a micrfibre cloth rather than the chammy for drying.
Also, I gave my car a treat by claying it, then polishing (there's a brilliant how-to on here), and I now use Megs' Quick detailer after every wash. Altogether a recipe for making sure you ALWAYS look back at it as you walk away, if you don't do this already................... |

Derek (monkeyhanger) I've moved your thread to the Valeting forum where your questions regarding cleaning should get more coverage

Depends to an extent what colour your car is, but I can definately recommend Chemical Guys Pete's 53 wax. One of the best places to find good waxes etc (including the 53) is www.cleanyourcar.co.uk. Certainly worth a look.

I found that after using Mer for several years on my almost-black Honda (in fact I used Mer exclusively on all my cars since I first saw it on St Albans market in the early 80s) - both as a polish and a couple of capfuls in the bucket instead of shampoo - that it built up a covering that was very "flat" with no depth of shine.
Only used it a couple of times on the 75, then changed to something called "Bosun" I saw at a car show, but I wouldn't go back to either now. After over 40 years of car ownership, and trying to keep my cars looking good, two things have come as complete revelations to me, thanks to members on here:- The 2 bucket method of car washing, and Claying the bodywork. If you've not tried these, you must!!! malcolm |
