Hi,
I checked things, in tank pump gets 12v, so i think relay is Ok, under bonnet pump work, it is pretty loud. I do not have MK2 facelift, so i have two pumps. I decided to buy a new fuel pump assembley made y Siemens VDO. I have ordered it in Germany and now i hope it will be OK. |

Rear Pump
Quote:
How many kilometres has your car covered ? Have you seen the suggestion not to let your tank go below 1/4 to avoid this problem (though pumps will probably fail with age............. don't we all !) Perhaps you will be good enough to let us know how much the pump cost you in Germany. Hope all is ok now though as the rear pump failed, and your front pump is making a noise, this may go as well. Hope not. Regards, Dave

CDT pre-facelift. In-tank pump fails after 12000 miles??
or was I ripped off?
Had the car recovered 12000m ago, diag as rear pump gone, bill was £580 (inc collection from my home to garage), in part covered by warranty!!!. Anyway, ran no problem till 2 weeks ago, when front pump failed. Replaced that, now I can hear nothing from rear pump, although car runs fine, if a bit breathless approaching 4000 rpm. Just had back seat out, forgot to check for 12v, oh well, back to the fray. Assuming that power is OK, is replacing the rear pump DIY? Mr Haynes quotes the Rover recommended method, but says it won't work. Any advice, please?? Thanks in advance Malcolm Last edited by baxlin; 3rd March 2007 at 10:39.. Reason: smelling |

I didn't really pay much attention to the bits inside the pump, but when Paul bought his first 75 and filled it up here, it promptly spewed loads of of an improperly fitted seal. The pump is held on with a threaded sleeve, just needs a drift to tap it round to undo it for it to lift up and out, however, I can't comment on physically changing it though as I never had to fully remove it, looking in the workshop manual shows thats its connected to the other side of the tank.
I would however have thought it to be entirely possible to swap it on a DIY basis though, just one of those dirty and smelly jobs! |

Hi,
my car is a little bit specific. It is 2001 year, but was sold in december 2003 (new was standing two years). I bought it last year in may and car had 26.000 kilometers. Since then i have made 20.000 kilometers without any problem. And now, this pump. I have to say, that i have one bad habit: i always fill the tank to full and then drive fast to the empty tank. When i go to fillnig station it goes about 60 litres in the tank. Now i see it was not god for the pump and in the future i won't do this any more. Price for the pump in Germany? Interesting story, i could get a genuine Rover pump for 240 GBP from UK, here in Slovenia a new pump from Rover is 340 GBP, this one in Germany is made by Siemens VDO and costs 200 GBP. I hope i'll get this pump as soon as possible. One good thing is that i get the pump first and then i pay the invoice. Hope you understand my english. |

Your English is fine.
Not sure on average prices for the pumps here in the UK, but if as you say you can get one cheaper then go for it! Are you planning on fitting it yourself or getting a local garge to do the work? |

I decided to go to my local garage, they used to do on Rover cars before and i trust them my both Rovers (214 SI and 75 CDT).
I was thinking to do it by myself. I don't know if it is necessary to replace the part which is in the left side of the tank. Should i pull out this all through the hole on right side, where the pump is fitted or just disconnect the pipe which comes from left side an tne connector and then refit them again. Regards. |

Hi Sigor, the in-tank pump is more than just a pump. There is a part of it that goes across to the other side of the tank, but it is all joined to the pump.
So, if you remove the pump, the electric connections and pipe to the other side come out all together. To see what I mean, have a look at these http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...ight=fuel+pump http://forums.mg-rover.org/showthrea...ight=fuel+pump |

Hi,
i know how it looks like.I just don't know should i pull out this from left side of the tank. Is there enough space to push that part again back to other side of the tank? Thanks for information |
