Default re-map?

I see on here talk of having a "re-map" done, and the vast improvement it makes to the car, OK for a complete non tech guy, what is it and what does it do and is it expensive, tried to Google it and could not find anything that made sence to me, thanks in advance

hi there is two or three ways you can go,the easiest way is to find one of the guys on the forum with T4s they can do an xpower remap that gives approx 20bhp dont quote me on that think they charge club members round the £80 mark.loads of other remaps but you will get no change from £200,or you can go on rover ron site and treat your self to a synergy power upgrade £200ish.

Your original cars computer (ECU) contains software which collates all the data from the various engine sensors and tells the turbo and injectors what to do.
This software can be re-written to raise the boost pressure, inject more fuel etc and make the engine produce more power.

The diesel engine in our cars came in 2 different power outputs, the only difference being the software.

Forum member with a T4 can up the power from the lower to the higher output for a small charge.

If you want more then you'll need to go to a specialist who will do a bespoke remap.

Gains are much higher with a turbocharged engine than n/a.

Things have changed since I first started messing with cars, I'm more likely to be plugging my laptop in than changing carb jets

Not sure in N.I. But you could get yourself a Synergy2 which is a brill piece of kit, and simple to install.. (plug and play) ..

First of all can I have a XPower or a remap on my 75 CDT SE, and second question would I have to tell the insurance company as I am not allowed a Synergy box as my insurance will not allow them

It depends on whether yours has the higher or lower power map on, if it's the lower then yes

Of course you need to tell your insurance company, there's absolutely no way they'd ever know unless you told them, so you'd need to get on the phone and make them take more of your money

Sorry I am like Mikeart I am not very good with cars, how would I know if I have a low or high power map

I would be straight on the phone to the insurance company if I got it done, .

Cheers

You could go straight from 116bhp to over 150bhp without the need for an xpower upgrade, just get a remap to that, it's what I did
