i have had this problem with the engine light which is liting all the time for a couple of days, then it disappears for a day or two and then it lites up again and so forth...what is the possible fault?, i got the feeling that it maybe can be the plenum drains flooded?, anyone in here with ideas?,any help appreciated/best regards stephan

Very difficult to predict the problem, could be a number of things. The first thing is to check the stored codes in the ECU with a code reader. The existing codes can be cleared, and when the MIL flashes up gain check the stored code.

If you have a garage nearby with diagnostic equipment the will advise.

On a petrol motor of that age, I'd suspect the lambda sensor but you do need the fault codes read.

Any low cost code reader will work on the petrol models so it is more cost effective to buy one than to pay a garage to do it.
(buy the type that also show live sensor data as well as this type are more useful that a basic reader/clearer)
