Default Tyre Sizes

Sorry but another tyre question! The Tourer CDT I picked up last week came with 18 inch hairpins (think that's what you call them) and 225/40/18 tyres. After reading through the forum it seem that members run 225/45/18.

Is my car running the wrong size? I don't know what the original spec would have been so I am unable to to do a rolling circumference comparison.

This will either mean changing one worn tyre or all four!

The correct size is 225/45/18, often the 225/40's are fitted because they're easier to get hold of and a lot cheaper.

I have 40's on my 11 spokes, they will be replaced with the correct tyre at the next opportunity..

Tyre noise and ride quality is unacceptable.

Changing the rear pair to the higher profile first would be fine if you want to split the cost.

To make the ride more comfortable, you could sell your 18" hairpins and get some 16" wheels with thicker less expensive tyres with more bump absorbing.

Better mpg & performance as well with narrow section tyres.
Also, watch out for insurance issues with non factory sizes. You know what they are like for finding excuses not to pay out..!
