Default EGR bypass - FANTASTIC -but buzz noise on idle....

Hi,

I have changed my EGR with a bypass.

Went for a test drive : better engine respons
more torque from 1200 rpm
smoke has gone

But coming home with car on idle there is a electronic buzz that I can hear.

When I rev the engine it goes but afther a few seconds off idling it is back.

What is it ?

Greetings

Peter

There nothing that "electronically should buzz" after fitting an EGR..

I would suggest that as you've had to disturb a few bits to fit the egr , there's someting touching or loose that wasn't before.

A good "buzzer" is the plastic top cover ... if touching something

have fun

Hi Peter. This "buzz" is something a few of us have had once the vacuum pipe to the EGR has been blanked off. It comes from the other end of the pipe and is a small solenoid that wants to sit buzzing for "seemingly" no reason. It seems to stop after some time (weeks), but as you say it starts on tickover and goes when the revs pick up.
No one has reported any negative feedback, just the noise.

Regards. Steve.

Does the buzz come through the stereo speakers or you can just hear it from the car?
Since fitting a Grom interface to the Symphony to enable an iPhone/iPod connection I get a slight buzz through the speakers when pressing the throttle so presume there is some sort of interference from the throttle potentiometer.
This sounds like the opposite to your problem as mine makes no buzzing on idle.
Car also has EGR bypass, not sure if there is any relevance but would be interested to find a solution, is some sort of suppression required?

No the sound isn't coming from the speakers inside.

It's from the vacuum solenoid......

What can I do to stop it ?

You could replace the solenoid with a resistor. (you can't disconnect it or the mil will come on).

I'd be tempted to try a 27ohm 20watt power resistor - the value is probably not that critical (or you could measure the resistance of the solenoid to get a better idea)

Mine buzzes but disappears usually within a couple of minutes so I haven't bothered to sort it out.

Ron's idea with the resistor sounds a good one might give it a try.
