Default Re Map

Coming out of London today after a day of the engine stopping and turning over about 30+ times before it restarted which happened once right on Trafalgar Square,
On the way home I disconnected the Synergy 2 and reconnected it as per it left the factory, It now ran but would not rev.
Disconnected the connector lead that goes to the MAF and left it off it now revved OK,
Ran perfect all the way home albiet with the power loss on acceleration from the Synergy even pushing a Porsch Boxster on the M40.
(I never really rated them)

(1) Is the Synergy faulty.

(2) Is the MAF faulty.

(3)Would a new MAF and a remap instead of the Synergy2 cure it.

How much is a remap?
What power is available from a remap?
Who is trustworthy enough to remap a car thats fussed over and kept pristine.

She's very fussy who touches her.
She has once allowed Jules full access to all her parts.

I'm sure as always we'll have a boatload of suggestions!!
Thanks in anticipation.

I doubt very much that the synergy is faulty.

The synergy will magnify any faults in your engine, especially any faults with the injectors.

If it runs better with the MAF disconnected it would be fair to assume that there is a fault with the MAF. But it is by no means certain.

Best thing to do is to get the injectors checked for leakback and to get the MAF and all other engine sensors checked out on a T4.

I would have thought the injector leak back would be no different with or without the synergy, The T4 brings up loads of problems one being the EGR but thats had the modified part so it can't be that.

But thanks for the suggestion.

Its just a maf issue. Fit a pierburgh and use the higher settings on the Synergy 2.
No remap will work properly if there's a maf issue and without the Synergy 2 you'd have to buy a genuine Bosch one circa £250 or risk continuing problems with a clone or counterfeit one.

Of course you can still have a remap AND keep the Synergy 2 for even more performance. (Use it on a lower setting)

I forgot to mention that my colleague can remap (circa £220) all the Rovers & MGs except the L series diesel & v6. He's in Bedlington, Northumberland. 01670 818914

Thanks for your help Ron, I'll try to arrange a trip to your colleagues over the school half term in October.

I would like to say that the performance with the Synergy2 is brilliant so I'll give the remap and Synergy a go.

How much for a Pierburgh and can you send one to Sweden, or Corin (have the synergy already but haven´t fitted it). Cheers.

A Pierburgh maf is £73.95 inc postage to Sweden (sending one not a problem).

The remaps tend not to work as well as a Synergy below 2000rpm but overall with both the performance should be in another league. It was on my X-type - that was unbeleivable for a heavy 2L diesel. (never got to try both on my 75)

TiRich had 172bhp from his ZT cdti with both installed, a few years ago.

Ron, How likely is the engine to go bang with that amount of power?
Its only done 58000 now and has always been really well serviced with oil changes more often than reccomended. EGR mod done.
