One other thing has sprung to mind and thats a collapsed cat. Its also rare but by blocking the exhaust it will cause boost pressure reduction.
Have you check this via the obd port on the road? There's a chart on my website somewhere! One of the tests for delaminating hoses is that under gradually increasing acceleration - ie let the boost build up slowly everything is fine. But snap throttle openings which cause a rapid boost increase produce the symptoms. In bad cases the engine simply won't rev over 3000rpm ( or some other rpm over 2000 depending upon the severity of the blockage.) The L series engine suffers from the same phenomenon. Ron

I few checks completed today:
Maf connection off - no change still smoking (increase if anything) The pipes leading away from the air filter towards the turbo are clear and not blocked. They were also connected correctly (Jules I was hoping your idea of one side being disconnected was true !) Visual inspection of the exhaust show no signed of obvious restriction. Local exhaust centre completed visual inpsection and confirms no sign of obvious blockage. In their words 'if it was blocked you would feel a loss of power, the only way to confirm would be to replace the full system!' Where next: Turbo waste gate and turbo seals - have to wait for Russ for that one |

I think measuring the boost pressure is next. If this is okay then I'm stumped for now. Ron

Just a thought, try running without the air filter element fitted

No problemns with starting either hot or cold.
Smokes on start up ..... don't they all?? I notice the smoking more when hot, classic is down the motorway, if I hit the accerator while cruising at 70 to overtake it creates a cloud of smoke! |
