I'd fit one of Dave's (evotomturbo on ebay) not the Polish ones.
Then it ceases to be something that will need attention in the future. They now come with a boost pressure gauge take off. Don't forget to fit viton seals to the intercooler spigots and you'll have fixed another possible reliability issue. Jules keeps them. Ron

I have cleaned decoked and disarmed the ERG valve but not removed on my car and it has improved , I have also done the air intake mod2, improved more.Tangible results that anyone that has done them will testify. I understand the inclusion of this piece of equiptment for the reduction in certain pollutants,but the manufacturers have only fitted them under duress.
However if it fails to acheive this through its obvious perpetual self contamination, and has never been included in any service schedule as a matter of importance, (which I'm sure some of you think it is) it can only be concluded that it is, by the nature and implementation of its design, flawed beyond being of any use after a certain point in time. So leave the system as is, choked of a decent airflow by means of narrowed air intake, being slighty over fuelled, not running hotter, using more diesel in the process, less efficient, creating more gunk for it to re-cycle on itself causing the conditions that lead to the mods in the first place. Do the mods, free the breathing cycle up, use less fuel, burn more by products in the process,make more fuel efficient, but possibly at the expense of one pollutant. Economically the latter is the most appealing, but its a matter of concience which you choose of course.Your wallet may dictate otherwise. Just two questions interlinked here if I may, Does the ECU adjust the fuel mix if more air induced, if not does the leaner mix burn hotter (beneficial to colder engine block ) What would be the result of excluding the PCV filter from the original Rover housing ? , as it obviously serves no purpose, (another non service item) I've noticed the replacement BMW part for it does not have one, do the design differences in the housing differ that much, that leaving the original housing filter free, would cause any harm ? Just to add something into the mix here, I work in a vw dealer and I was reading about there diesel particulate filters,now these seem to be getting more and more advanced as the technology obviously gets better,now so that the exhaust gets to the correct temperature to burn off the soot in the dpf the ecu operates the egr valve.so my question would be would modifying/removing the egr valve on our vehicles affect our exhaust temperatures and affect other components ?
(Obviously our cars dont have dpfs but you see where im coming from on this one ?) |

Vauxhall, Saabs and Fiats suffer from big problems cause by the egr system. The egr valve is over £200 and the problems can also afflict the dpf.
Fiat have now released a blanking plate for the egr valve !!!! It has a hole in it to prevent the MIL coming on (this 'trick' also works on euro BMWs). Vauxhall and Saab refuse to supply or fit it, leaving the customer with a large bill....(all use Fiats 1.9L multijet engine) If you fit the blanking plate in good time, it will prevent or reduce future egr related problems. Full marks to Fiat for some lateral thinking. Ron

The only way forward is for makers design an EGR that is easily cleanable or easily changed as a service item.
Fancy putting exhaust gases into the inlet..................sheer madness

took mine off at the weekend - well and truely choked up - cleaned up well and i also cleaned all the crud off the inlet manifold where it bolts
as for not fitting egr - does everyone fancy a scr system with urea tank to fill up and dosing pump to go faulty...... i think a well designed easily cleanable egr valve would be a good idea but car manufacturers are not in to making more "service" items on their cars |
