V8 surprise !
A couple of weeks back I removed the dust cover from my restored SD1 Vitesse to allow me to wash it, the dust sheet that is. It took two separate washes to get it clean.
Today I decided to try and start it up for the first time in over five years but first of all the battery which was now completely gone had to be replaced. After a quick trip to my local tyre place in Kilmarnock and £90 lighter I was home with a new battery and got it fitted. I decided to crank to engine for a short burst to see how it was and to my shock and amazement it fired up. Even with the old fuel it ran remarkably well so I engaged reverse and had her outside in the sunshine. Basically the car could go straight onto a show as with the dust cover it has kept it in good order plus of course the car is sitting a a fully carpeted garage. The neighbours must have thought I’ve lost it as I was using the old Dyson to give it a vacuum before putting the car back inside. Here she is today. Looks great but surely it deserves a good run out. Will it get a day out later in the year when the sun is shining? I'd volunteer to drive it if I was closer

I don’t know if you guys know the history behind my Vitesse but I’ve had it since 1989 and carried out a major restoration / rebuild from 2006 to 2010.
The car shows up on YouTube under the SD1 National meet for 2010 and 2011 It won best in class and best in show at the 2010 meet plus the same awards at the 2010 Scottish all Rover Rally. Soon it will be time for someone else to show it as it will be coming up for sale. Now that’s a shock announcement. |
