Agree that the Rover is capable of handling deep snow, but then I do have studded winter tyres (130 studs per tyre) and lots of experience, at one stage my all year round car was a SD1. Also had an Allegro which was fantastic ploughing through snow.
Up early this morning at 4 as the wife was unwell and needed some maintenance at the local hospital. Bit chilly at 19.3c below but the Rover burst into life as I knew it would, brushed off yesterday’s snow, it’s only at 30c below that I would start to have doubts. But had the interior light on / door open warning which is not unusual, couldn’t lock it at the hospital as the 10 minute drive wasn’t enough to thaw the door lock(s). Not too worried though as there must be lots of more valuable keyless cars around. I find the undertray frequently rubs on our rutted snow covered roads. No problems with progress but it’s good to know that all the clips are in place. Wouldn’t like to think of chucks of ice hitting the bottom of the car if I didn’t have the undertray. Regards |

You can’t call it snow unless you have lived through a North East winter.

that's what I'd always worry about, plus where I live there are lots of hills and the ZT is no good on hills at in snow. During the 'beast from the east' last year I didn't have a lot of choice about walking as I would had to have dug my car out of the garage.

Agree with trikey, my ZT auto Diesel is one of the best cars i've had in the snow ,
( never had a 4x4) but overtaken one struggling in the snow before .. C

Worst snow I've driven in was that real heavy stuff we had a few years ago, when the country virtually ground to a halt. I was laid up, recovering from a burst appendix, my other half was working, I needed cigs and milk. The local supermarket was down the hill from where we lived, easy walking distance but not in my condition. Managed to get the car out and down to the Coop, getting back was another matter. Two possible routes back up the hill, one steeper than the other, car (N/A 1.8 at the time) wouldn't entertain the steeper route but by rocking the steering I managed to get back up the other way. If I recall correctly I didn't see another car on the road.
See the Police in the north of Scotland stopped some half wit yesterday. Driving like a tank driver, peering through a tiny clear patch on the windscreen. Last edited by stevestrat; 30th January 2019 at 12:37.. |

There’s simply no excuse for not clearing ice and snow before you set off.
Even though both the missus and I had no plans to drive today I still cleared the snow off the cars. I also did the driveway plus my neighbours car and drive. They would much worse tommorow if it froze tonight. |
