Breakfast At The Jail
This morning, it was my sisters turn to drive on our weekly day out.
Imagine my surprise when she drove us to Kirklevington Prison near Yarm. There, they have an amazing cafe and crafts facility. Situated just the right side of the wire is the cafe, offering very good fare at very reasonable prices. For example a breakfast bun, egg, bacon, and sausage with a large Americano for £3.25. Inmates due for release in the near future cook and serve the food, supervised by prison staff. The cafe itself is very nice, with eating inside, and outside at picnic tables. Alongside this there are crafts made by the lads doing there time, all very well made, and again, very well priced. Chickens roam free in the leisure areas, plants, hanging baskets etc are also for sale. Piece de resistance, is the car wash where you can have your pride and joy washed and dried for £5, mini valeted for £10, or full valet for £15 while you feast on your brekkie. All in all, it's a marvellous place to visit. I'm doing so again, for sure. |
