Default Sky broadband - any good?

We've been with BT for a fair while now, but the prices are getting pretty high - £53 a month for Infinity 2 broadband and unlimited weekend calls. I rang through to query this and was offered the same package for £36 per month. Sky currently offer £30 a month for essentially the same service broadband service, plus a £50 prepaid Mastercard (new one on me, but if it's there I'll take it) - however a package to include evening & weekend calls would be an extra £4 a month. I then rang BT back, to be told that their best offer is now £43 a month and not £36.

So can any Sky customers tell me whether they are any good as a broadband & phone provider? Are their broadband speeds consistent, or is there a lot of variability? Are they good at resolving problems? I don't want to sign up to something for 18 months and then have to endure the frustration of waiting for pages to load, downloads to take forever etc.

No idea regards Sky, always felt they offered more than anyone ever needed. Just moved house and got EE basic broadband, so slow. I'm upgrading to fibre, but having to pay £29/pm (cheapest fibre) Basic was £18-50. seems the faster the speed the more it costs, before you sign up check the minimum promised speed, and check that against what you have now.

Have you looked at TalkTalk?
For £32.50 I get fibre broadband (38Mps measured), free anytime calls including to mobiles, caller ID, a free mobile SIM card plus another SIM card at an additional £4.45.
Also get call blocking for nuisance calls.

Don't know what there standard broadband is like but we've had sky fibre for 2 years now and it's always at 32mb speed, I've never seen it drop below 30mb and I test it regularly, only had it drop out twice in them 2 years and only for about an hour, which was in the early hours of the morning so most people won't notice it.

Over all I can't fault there fibre, we never use the landline so can't comment, the phone is actually unplugged and sat in a draw, everyone automatically calls the mobile now to so no need for it.

Plusnet is owned by BT, so pretty much the same service as BT, but much, much cheaper.

£28 pm includes line, unlimited broadband, unlimited number of email addresses, free anytime UK calls and 2000 minutes of mobiles calls. Help desk is Yorkshire based and first language is English. Then you get £50 cashback cheque within a month or so.

I can send you a reference to join them, if you like.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

Been with Sky for landline, fibre & TV. Overall very happy with the service, and the speed is brilliant - I got 80mb down & 20mb up, so not too bad

I have a discounted price as I threatened to leave and they dropped the price.

Thanks folks. Went with Sky in the end as I was able to negotiate a couple of extras as an existing Sky TV customer, and the reassurance that the download speed is usually pretty reliable. I'll keep the Plusnet option in my back pocket in case things don't work out during the cooling-off period.
