Default swear words

Why are certain words edited out. I recently used the word '********' and it was edited out. This is not a swear word, it refers to someone born out of wedlock. I do appreciate that it is now not appropriate in the original sense but could still be used to make a point.

Even lesser swear words are edited with the swear filter. At the end of the day it's a family forum..

I would have thought that the very fact a word like that (cant imagine what you mean) is used out of its original context shows that its intended to be taken by the audience as a swear word.

While many of us experience fustration in life, (especialy as Rover owners!) how we deal with it in our private lives, and the language we use, is just that - private. I would question the need to then sit at a computer and conciously type that on a public forum, where many do not use such language.

This in no way is meant to criticise anyone, or claim some moral high-ground, but just to hightlight the difference between the choices we can make in private as oppose to respect we show others in a public setting.

Swearing isn't necessary, well in 99% of circumstances it isn't

Trouble is its a draconian automated "catch all" filter. All it does is recognise the word from the banned list, makes no allowances for the phrase the word is being used in where it could have a totally different meaning.
