Default Diesel front pulley

Good morning are there any obvious physical signs of impending front pulley failure I have a "tinkling sound " from that area but everything looks normal.

Pouring water on the pulley usually stops the pulley noise momentarily. Or pop off the drivers wheel and take a look at the rubber between the two pieces and see if there's any deteriation. Pulley is usually a clattering sound but worth a look see. Lee.

Unfortunately you won't see that side of the pulley unless you take it off.

Only one bolt but it can be a tad tight - last one I removed needed a 5ft scaffold bar extension and me swinging on it for all I was worth.

Could also be the water pump - this was mine when it went.

If you remove the serpentine and aircon belts you can check all the other pulleys and idlers for play and roughness.

I'd just take of the alternator belt and check each pulley in turn, which should be quite easy for Tony to do

So the water pump, tensioner/idler and bottom pulley, in the case of the latter is should be fairly easy to detect movement between the "sandwich" sections of the inner and outer pulley.

Brian, do you remove the sump plug on that to drain the oil, or suck it up with a pump?

You take the engine out and replace it when the oil is due for a change
