Default freezing cold air in front of gearknob

Hi,
Is it normal for the small storage space in front of gearknob to be very cold. Almost as if it is has been designed to chill a drink for example? Its that cold!

It is very odd, the tourer I used to run wasn't like this. Its useful to keep a small drink container chilled

The cold air feed to the rear central vents would run below this area, so at a guess the cold is coming from that?

A chilled drink ??? Seems like a good idea but don't be tempted to put your nuts in there.----
