Default Electrical failure

Mine looked exactly like that. Apparently the car was taken off road when the turbo failed and for no other reason. How on earth was the engine still running?? I take it your ECU was fried?

I had just flushed the cooling system on mine, started the engine and it ran for a couple of minutes then died.

And yes, the ECU had been well cooked.

The morning was spent at an auto jumble in Huddersfield where I purchased a 36mm socket for the diesel oil filter a 18mm flexi head ratchet spanner for the lower arm rear bush and a chain oil filter, all costing the princely some of £14 happy days, then a run out in the remapped zt turbo Sundays at it finest

Nothing beyond my expertise so that rules out anything too technical or mechanically delicate like a clutch for example...

Simply stuck on some 2 litre torpedo badges to frosty...

Awaiting my new Walnut wood steering wheel next

Getting there (within my capability) slowly.

Refilled the gearbox, fitted the subframe, followed by the exhaust then the battery box and a bit of underbonnet tidying.

With the engine secured properly, all of the bolts securing the gearbox, the steering rack etc, were torqued up, and it was time to get it down from the axle stands.

So after dropping the front down, I took the opportunity to refit the battery, reset the clock and fire it up.

A quick check over, and tidy up the tools, and now for the moment of truth......

.........the reward for my trouble is the most compliant clutch of any rover 75 or MG ZT I've ever driven

I can finally see why people were so impressed by these when they were new, what a complete and utter transformation.

I'll give it a shakedown run of more than the 25 miles of mixed driving, and then the Duotone I've been using for the past few days will be up for sale, as I never want to drive an automatic again

Yes, brilliant when they work, disastrous when they don't, and confusing when they are seemingly perfect one minute, and horrendous the next.

Watch this space for the post mortem of the original flywheel

Always good to get a result Bri - makes all the effort worthwhile.

Will be interesting to see the result of the post mortem.
