Gave it a good wash yesterday as it deserved it after spending the last couple of weeks sulking in the garage. Want to try and get the sills and wheel arches done with anti-corrosion wax so hopefully if it's not too cold and wet over Christmas will be able to get that done before salt goes down on the road. |

Did the 'bonnet pull mod' today although all seemed to be spot-on anyway, but thought I would take the forum's advice and 'future proof' it ... just in case, lubed the cables and bonnet catches too.
Also thought I would have a go at the plenum cleaning job, got it all apart and as predicted ... actual drain hole was blocked with what looked like 14 years of a fine powdery mud, not a single leaf or twig in sight!! was quite surprised tbh. As a member suggested, I used a 15mm plumbers bending spring and just carefully twisted and pushed it through a couple of times. Clean as a whistle now. Thought I would go OTT and completely cover everything under the scuttle covers with a good healthy dose of WD40, then give the wiper mechanism pivot points a dab of grease. All back together now ... on to the next job! |

As it has finally stopped raining I decided to remove the scuttle clips etc to finallly check my plenem drains on my recent purchase.
Glad to report all clear and rodded Didn't look to dirty in there either. While i was at it I gave the engine bay a preliminary clean and treated the scuttle clips and covers (as seen above in Artic's post) and treatment of 'back to black'. Just awaiting a plenem guard from Jules now

Fitted two secondhand crank pulleys, the first one was a one cleaned up from The stable of Mr Mechanical Genius........nope huge amounts of runout, enough to chuck the belt off
The second came off a scrap engine, and after fitting seemed ok, now to test drive it for a day or so before committing to a new Corteco one........this is a theoretical get out of jail card before I pull the gearbox out to replace the flywheel I'll clean up the original pulley tomorrow and give it a good inspection, but the preliminary signs are positive.........which is what I need at the moment |

Today I removed the light oak plastic dash and replaced it with a walnut real wood one.
Fairly straightforward job a bit fiddly at times but well worth it Looks the dogs danglies now Need a walnut wood steering wheel next.

Finally got one side finished yesterday with new subframe in, old upper bush eventually removed and replaced, all arms reconnected and wheel back on the ground at last after a few months!! Just the other side to go.

As the sun was shining, I thought I would change the air filter, good job I did because the filter I removed was absolutely filthy, even between the folds of the actual filter was caked in dust / grime / flies / bugs.
Car has just clicked over 59,500 miles and tbh it looks like it could of been the original filter! All sorted now, but with hindsight ... I should have changed the pcv too while I was in there. Another little job for tomorrow then. Was going to change the fuel filter tomorrow too, is there a procedure for bleeding / purging the diesel system prior to starting or is it a self bleeding job.? Thanks. |
