Brake Master Cylinder
This item has gone and my splendid 75 Diesel now failed it's MOT. The problem is that the garage cannot find anywhere to source these from ( I looked on Rimmer's and spoke to them - they did a search and could only find one in Greece! SO, does anyone have any idea where I might get one ?
I now believe a Brake Master Cylinder off an MG ZT will not do ? Also ! does anyone know if a R75 v6 Saloon has same Brake Master Cylinder as a R75 V6 Tourer ? Advice appreciated - have tried the Tech forum but zero response so far. All the best |

All the same across the range except the 190, strange one this as I have never seen one fail!

Symptom
Thanks Trikey - I rather thought these fails were rare. The main symptom was a continued , slow move of the brake pedal to the floor after the foot depression initially feeling ok(ish). I noticed a chap in 2016 on this club had almost the same fault. I have now managed to source two for my diesls off EBay but still need one as a spare for my 75 V6 Tourer.
Should add that my Diesel that failed the MOT on Brake Master Cylinder basis had been resting ( covered) on my driveway for 18months - although I can't see how that could have caused the failure? I regularly topped up the battery charge and turned it over too. All the best. Last edited by Rickshaw; 12th November 2019 at 21:43.. Reason: Thought of extra info for people to read |

Have you thought of sending it to a specialist to be rebuilt ?

I had an email from a customer about these the other day (apologies if it was you, of course!)
It seems they're very reliable and rarely fail; thus I'd hunt one down from a relatively low mileage car being broken for spares. In my search for suitable seals / pistons for rebuilding the plastic Clutch Master Cylinder many years ago I 'forcefully' disassembled one of these with around 150,000 miles on it - was like new inside, not even a 'tide mark' on the bore where the seals end travel. Very well built.

They should have got the brake master cylinder manufacturer to do the clutch hydraulics, and we might have ended up with something half decent.

Probably the garage checked this, if not there could perhaps be a simple fix:
Is the vacuum connection to the EGR valve ok? This rubber hose can perish or have holes due to 'chaving'. Vacuum is then lost and the brake master is not functioning at all. If so, replace this hose and test if the brakes are normal again. Had this twice and never had to replace the brake master on a diesel 75, although have a spare one on the shelf. Rob
