Between 10 and 25 years. Insurers see cars 10 years or older as 'classic'.

In discussions today and it seems the MGF and TF are suffering from high attrition rates. Breakers are getting cars which predominately have HGF or similar issues and due to the breaking value are not even being considered as repairable. EEK!!!

That is very bad, just for the sake of spending 2 to £300 can get the head gasket sorted, there are some very good mechanics out there who specialise in fixing head gaskets and reconditioning both the 1.8K and the KV6 engines. It is absolute criminal that people would think to scrap the car just for that.

Agree, the chat today was with a couple of breakers and a mechanic. Oh and cups of tea.

I agree, very sad, but I suppose it is simple economics for a lot of folk.

Personally, I don't give the residual value of my car a thought when it comes to sorting issues. It cost me £8.5K when I bought it 2nd hand some years ago, and is probably in better condition than it was then. As far as I'm concerned, if something needs fixing, then it gets fixed. Mind you, I'd be stuffed if it ever got written off!

I agree.Just done my head gasket on my we coupe yesterday, same as 75 .(well my brother Talago did it while I was minding the kids).Very striaght forward job.Just spend abit extra cleaning things right and there is no probs.Hate hearing the whole HGF thing. There is alot worse than this can go wrong. And its a fairly easy fix, if your handy with the spanners it not dear.
Always use quality parts and not the cheap ones and there should be no more probs.

Pretty much my view on mine, which cost £7500 with 22500 miles on back in early 2007, and now is worth I know not what with 84500 miles on the clock. It's much better now with proper wood dash, wood wheel, X-Power upgrade, memory drivers seat, FBH etc etc.

Equally agree with the worry about being written off. I have already decided I don't ever want to get rid of it, so unless something awful happens, it's here to stay!
