They are quick to warm up, especially when ambient temp is 20 plus

They do warm up quickly. Nice in winter and a big plus I found over my diesel.

They take an age to cool down too, being such a big lump.

The fan is needed if you are stuck in a traffic jam for even a ten mins stop, it will start to climb very quickly after 94c. Your fan will hopefully still work on the higher speeds and stop a problem happening?

I changed my fan unit last week on my ZT-T 180 KV6 after it failed on the motorway in a jam.

Tested mine only recently, after having the water pump replaced (again!!!)

It ran superbly fluctuating at 89 deg to 94 deg in heavy traffic. We then encountered a traffic jam and was stationary for around 20 mins. The temp climbed quickly over 102 deg then the fan kicked in and it soon dropped back to low 90's.

That sounds about right.
The KV6 is a light engine using damp liners, so there's not much heat capacity in the metal itself, compared to something like an 80s V6 which would have an iron block. This means it'll get to temp nice and quickly.

A K4 seems to do it even quicker - mine was hot by the end of my road!
