It looks as if a smart maintenance charger could be the answer, to prevent the new battery going the same way.

YHT suggested battery health could be a cause of the fault in post #2. So yes, I guess.

Yes, this had gave me the glimmer of hope that it might just be battery related, which is why I had bought the battery.
Only took me 6 weeks to get round to putting it in.😳😳
I’ve just remembered that I haven’t opened or closed the tailgate to see if that triggers the fault again. D’oh!
If that was the only thing I have to do tomorrow I’ll be a happy man.😬😬

Simon

That would be a good idea.😀
I have 3 solar trickle chargers, which I usually swap around on the cars every now and again.
I guess the tourer missed its turn once or twice.🙄🙄
Even with a trickle solar charger on the car full time, I don’t think it’s enough to keep a battery sufficiently charged over winter, if not being driven.
RKZ (No. 1 saloon) had a solar charger on full Time, but it had to have a battery swapped with a charged one in January.

I agree Sean. A mains powered smart charger will adjust its output to match the battery's needs and it isn't dependent upon daylight. Is there a reason why you haven't invested in one of these?

Simon

The only reason I haven’t bought one yet Simon is that I seem to have accumulated an over abundance of 75s.
Every time someone comes to the house and admires one of them, Mrs 75driver tells them it’s buy one get one free.😬

4 75s, an old merc and an L200 would be competing for the space outside the garage window, through which a trailing lead would have to be fed. I don’t like this idea really.

Then I’d have to swap car locations on a weekly basis.

It easier for me to keep a battery or two on charge, and disconnect the battery on cars that aren’t going to be used for a while. Of course….that doesn’t always happen.😳.

I thought I would give the solar chargers a chance….just to see how well they worked.

In reality….i really do just need to downsize.😞
