If it has just started making the noise you should be fine driving to the garage, mine was making the noise for a couple of days before I got it replaced, but obviously that is your choice

Thanks for that Steve, the ebayer in question is away until Wednesday so it starts to get a bit tight for the car to be back on the road by the weekend.

This one I found earlier https://www.ecarparts.org/ROVER-75-M...PART-LHG100751 doesn't mention Corteco but does state it is OEM equipment, and the part number matches Rimmer's offering which it says is a genuine MG Rover part. It's cheaper too and I like cheap.

Obviously I get the "buy cheap, buy twice" thing though, so what's your verdict on that part?

I'll get Gavin at MG Rover Repair to do it, he's Rover trained and I can't fault any of the work he's done for me in the past. I imagine he's done a fair few in the past.

Autodoc have them for £146 but you may have to wait a little longer for it to arrive.

One of the other boaters, who used to work as a motor mechanic just had a look/listen and he said straight away "Crank pulley, I had the same just a couple of weeks ago on my Bongo van". I said "Do you think you can do it?" and he said "I've not done one on one of these before but I'll ask my mate Ash (who owns a garage) tomorrow and see what he says, if he says it's straightforward I'll do it.

Which would be good as this is just at the edge of my mechanical comfort zone, would also make things a lot easier than getting it to the garage.
