Does anybody know what the specs were for the springs for this kit in terms of inner diameter/spring diameter/spring twist pitch/spring loading rate?
I'm thinking that this comes up often enough that it may be worth seeing if there's anything generic on the market that would be "close enough" to do a bitsa kit on an ad-hoc basis. |

Took mine off as they warped the wing due to stress, so be careful I did look into getting adjustable gas struts to replace the oem ones & found a company that makes them to fit, they just needed the weight of the boot lid But I got bored & never bothered Might be a line to pursue for someone

I too have had this mod from the start, when Suzublu reported his problem I removed and resealed the hinge bolts as a precaution, never had any problems.

Don't feel this needs a new topic as this one already exists.
I have had this mod for several years. I think i was in one of the first batches at the time? Anyway, I noticed that the boot wouldn't come up anymore. It would open, and then raise a few cm but not open up completely. I noticed how the part of the hinge attached to the body of the car slowly bends. This is due to the springs being compressed when the lid is closed. All the time that the lid is closed, the springs push against the complete hinge setup. Eventually, this slowly bends the part where the strut is connected to the hinge. If this gets bend to far, the lid won't open up anymore. This can be fixed without damaging anything I believe. I did it in this way: - Put a strong beam in the booth. - Wrap a piece of electrical wire around the hinges, and try to make it as tight as possible - Put a jack on top of the beam in the booth - Put a piece of wood between the jack and the wire (try to keep it in the center) - When you make the jack go up, it will push against the wire. If this is raised, it will pull the parts of the hinges inwards. Bending them back. *please try it out a few times without any pressure so you understand what is happening and what you need to do. Also do not try this is you are not confident on doing this. You can hurt yourself if something goes wrong, and it could even damage the car. So please think this through before you do it. It worked for me, but that is not a guarantee. More so, I have found that the head of the strut that is connected to the hinge on the body, wears a fair bit. If that would snap off due to pressure, it would seriously damage the hinge and the surrounding area. So I eventually decided to order new struts, and remove the ones with the springs. I like the mod, it is really great. But not worth the risk I believe.
