Really glad you enjoyed that, as for going up in a T BIRD...lucky man, mind you I have been on a test flight at Mach 2+, 62,000 ft then 180 degree turn!! but it was very civilised and in what is/was the most beautiful aeroplane to grace the blue yonder...........but then I am a tad biased!!

Well... yes, certainly. But I'd never do it again. The jockey was a lunatic.
It was worse than a M.A.D. compensation flight on a Nimrod and it only lasted 10 minutes. Hell of a ride though As for Concorde; a different beast, a totally different experience. More in the knowledge that one was travelling at Mach 2 in a commercial airliner rather than the physically frightening rollercoaster of a trip in the Lightning |

One of the most nerving things working on Concorde was checking those Olympus engines for leaks....directly underneath the open cowlings whilst they were running! I know it sounds blase' but a beautifuly made machine but a s*d to work on at times and it bit you quite often. We made super planes once....mind you nice to see we have a cracking one for the RAF at last.

Great post.
The Lightning was one of the benchmark fighters of all time. I remember when I was younger watching one take off and go vertical until you couldnt see/hear it anymore. Awesome, and the plane that single handedly got me into aircraft. Awesome. Period.

In Aug. 1974 we were doing 'hot and low' trials out of Bahrain, I was lucky to have been on one of the flights over the Gulf (Arabian / Persian) checking how the airconditioning coped after long hot soaks on the ground. We eventually got up to 67,000' and Mach 2.3 on that flight as I recall... AWESOME...

My personal favorite used to be watching the F15s doing a vertical climb out in Decimomannu; superlative aircraft.
