Tips on drying the carpet
I have had it outside, foam side up for two days in the sun. Whilst it is dry to the touch, if you squeeze it, water still pours out.
Do you have any suggestions for better drying the carpet out following a leak? |

Having the aircon on all the time works well, or you can get dehumidifying bags from ebay or amazon (filled with some kind of salt which can be re-used over and over by drying in the oven on low).

Get yourself a dehumidifier and leave it running in the car over night ...I had an old peugeot 306 that leaked like a gooden...dehumidifier dry it out a treat ,plus sucking up the water with a wet and dry vacuum would help reduce drying time

I made up DIY dehumidifiers out of old socks filled with cat litter (The silica kind)
I had four on the go, two in the car, two on the radiators in the house drying out, just swapped them every 24 hours. Did this religeously through the winter and dried the car out fine. I also use the aircon all the time to dehumidify the air. The above worked even better once I'd cured the leak from the rear light seals! |

Rich, you need to have the carpet hanging up. Mine took 2 weeks in full sun to dry. Leaving it laying flat won't dry it at all.

I had the carpet up recently to sort the handbrake, its all dry as a bone.
Unlike when I got the car last November when I had pools of water in the rear footwells, under the rear seat and what passed for a foot spa in the spare wheel well! |

The best way I found to get most of the water out of the carpet was to put towels on the ground put the carpet on top and walk around on it,then hang it to let it dry,I have used de-humidifiers and they will help but it will not drag out water from under the carpet as it is plastic backed.
