iPad 3 to Chromebook
Currently using an ipad 3 which I've had from new, (6 years), and it's starting to slow down a lot and do strange things when loading web pages etc. Won't update anymore either.
So, time for something new. Been looking at the 2017 iPads for around £300 but was also thinking of a Chromebook for a change. Some nice offerings from Asus and Acer for a similar price to a basic iPad. Anybody using Chromebooks? Will I be disappointed after my old iPad? Only use it for web browsing, photos and emails etc Many thanks.

I've had a chromebook for about 2 years. I like it the battery is very good and lasts a long time. It doesn't have a big memory though. No issues with reliability. I don't do anything on it other than browse the internet though.

Had my Toshiba CB30 Chromebook for a few years and it's great. More like using a laptop than a tablet and the screen is not as good as my iPad Air's one. Will replace a low end laptop for general use so long as you don't want to install Windows apps or edit photos or videos though it will run the web-based ones such as Outlook ok. It's great not having all the hassles with updating the operating system and virus protection all the time. It's true that they don't slow down after a couple of years. There is a new generation coming out that will run Android apps.

You could always trade it against a new one at the Apple Store.
I’ve just done this for a friend in Malta. It cost me £359 to trade to a new 6th generation I Pad with 128Gb. |

Another option Paul is to try a free utilities IOS app to clean up the files clogging up the system. I use Dr Cleaner for the iPad It scans for junk files, large files 500MB-1GB, medium and small files, duplicate files/photos/videos and will not delete the useful files. For photos, to free up space, I allow the iPad to optimise them for sending to the cloud, with the exception for keeping some of the RAW photos in their original format called .orf.......... This is controlled in settings. When I delete an app, it goes to the cloud and can be downloaded again should I need it.
