BMW did not want a rival in the class 3 that it had. It realised it had dropped a gooli,

BMW should have interleaved the product ranges so you could move between the Marques as you spent more.
The fact that they "invented" a new marque called Mini says it all. Made them adopt transverse engines which they had actively despised before. |

I thought the idea was that the 75 would slot in between the 3 series and 5 series. The runaway success of the new Mini shows that the 75 could have succeeded. If only things had been different.

I think the new mini would not have sold half as many if it sported a rover badge, far too many folk these days buy for the name / image etc.

Pischetsreider Was a huge Rover fan and if I remember correctly a distant relative of Issigonis. Unfortunately, it was the wrong time to put pressure on the government / buying public on the day of the launch. I remember this happening and thinking the whole launch was turned into a if you don’t buy this product.......
The End Of The Road book is an interesting read
