Default Broadband speed?

Can anyone who knows these things, tell me if the speed quoted in the internet connection icon found in the system tray (windows xp home) is the true speed I am getting? It says 8.1Mbps. Just curious.

Nope, its the connection "speed" your actual downloads will vary depending on distance from the exchange, amount of traffic etc etc...... Mine says the same, but actual speeds can vary from about 200kbps to 900kbps, although usually i can get a nice steady 800kpbs when downloading large files at night.

Heh! No, thats the advantage with Cable over ADSL. Currently on a 10Mb connection, with upgrades being carried out at the moment to 20Mb!

Handy for downloading clipart and stuff!
