Question online ps3....connections

ive bought a ps3 and it comes with an ethernet cable to hook up to broadband.unfortunately my computer has a speedtouch modem that only has what i would describe as a telephone type input and only one at that.i want to be able to go online with the playstation 3 and use the computer and not have to be changing cables around when i do.
can anyone tell me what to buy, as cheaply as poss(pref e.bay!) and how to install it please??????

A simple router would do the trick. (provided your computer has an Ethernet socket, although they can be added if not. Its down to choice if you go wireless as well, as you can buy simple 4 port routers on ebay, as you have broadband you would simply replace your existing modem with an adsl router like this

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-D-LINK-DSL...QQcmdZViewItem

there are other ways of doing it, (wireless ect)but I think that would be the easiest? some of the network chappies will be along to assist soon.

In general the modem router will supply an IP address to your computer by DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) You should be able to see this in your network control panel. It will show an IP address for your computer x.x.x.x a subnet mask. xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx and the address of the router. x.x.x.x You should be able to access the router using a web browser by typing in the router address into the address bar as if accessing a web site.
It will probably ask for a user name and password. This you will find in the documentation.
Once in you should find somewhere to enter your ADSL logon details, (username and password).
Other settings should be standard. PPPoverA, VCI should be 38, VC muxed.

Have fun.

its called an etec adsl modem router 4 ethernet port/usb.thats the best i can do im afraid!

it tells me fairly simply how to install it (well they are the simplest instructions in there)but what confuses me is what to do next,if anything.
the instructions then go onto configuring the adsl router via the usb port, router parameter settings and static, dynamic and bridging functions!....
are they mad?,do i look like i work for nasa in my spare time,i only want to play games on my playstat ion 3!!!

Oh dear... I was under the impression that company went "awol" a few years ago, i was sort of hoping you had bought something like the one in the link I showed you. Sorry, I can't help.
