This typically works when there is a problem with spindle or armature control motor or bearings, or stuck contact on Surface face, freezing them basically shrinks the mechanical components just enough that they may operate as normal for a short time after wards. Always BACKUP your information and have SMART turned on in Bios.
This method is completely ineffective if the problem is with the logic board.
Always put in a Anti Static Bag before putting in Freezer.
