Thanks, had a look how can you tell if its blown and how do you replace them?

I thought this was going to be a reasonably easy job

Default Correction

Sorry guys, just started the engine and after a few minutes the fan started turned for a couple of seconds then stopped again can I therefore assume the gold resistor has failed and not a fuse.

Sorry if this sound stupid.

If you have Aircon, switch it on. The Fan should run constantly with the A/C on.

As far as checking the Fuse/Relay/Resistor, maybe Jules can help you there.... Sorry.

Tried that and no joy that's why I initially thought the fuse had blown but after starting the engine I get the usual fas fan for a few seconds every few seconds if you get my drift lol.

Just not sure what to do now!!

Default Fan

The fan is live at all times and is fed through FUSE LINK 4 (80A, there is no physical fuse) in the underbonnet fuse box. It may be a poor connection, particularly where you have just connected the gold resistor and it is unlikely that the resistor has burnt out after so short a time. Possible, but unlikely. When you have sorted it make sure that the wires are not rubbing on the matrix behind the fan. If you are saying that the fan does not run constantly but does run in short high speed bursts then that indicates that the resistor is not in circuit. Either blown or not a good connection.
