Default Oil change done, just noticed the garage used fully synth oil.

Hi all. I've just had my oil changed from a trusted garage only to get home and find they used 5w40 fully synthetic oil on my 190. Will this be an issue?

It is just better oil.
I would be happy with that.

I wouldn't quite say it's any better than the semi synthetic variety.

It contains more cleaning agents, specifications are much the same.

Thanks for the input guys. They seemed like a good garage, with the new MOT testing station, too.

Depends on the spec. I suppose.
But, as a general rule, synthetic oils offer big advantages in terms of high temperature stability and low temperature fluidity, but are more costly to produce than mineral oils.

If I remember correctly it was only the advent of fully synth oil that allowed manufacturers to stretch service intervals to in some cases 30k..

Some soon dropped them back to a more sensible 18k as other parts on the cars just couldn't manage 30k with no one ever checking them over..

If I ever came across a car that changing the oil on was a big headache i'd use it and stretch the service interval a bit to compensate for the extra expense..

Same goes for iridium & platinum tipped plugs, changed the plugs in our V6 when we got it @ 83k, the rear bank were so rusty i'd guess they'd never been done, Had a misfire but this was caused by a knack'd coil pack, the plugs were fine..
