I'm not that good with cars , but from what i have read on here .the most likely culprit is the injectors , then MAF and then pcv filter.Give it a good service including the pcv filter .Then see how it goes for a week.If no improvement , do an injector leakback test .If you can get to one of the guys with a T4 and get a check up.This should point you in the right direction. Will flag up problems with the injectors , and MAF at least.

A dirty or EGR partially stuck open, would also cause this.

Not at tickover, there's more than enough air there to cleanly burn the tiny amount of fuel required to maintain idle revs.
I'd go with the suggestions above. When was the last time the car was serviced including new air, oil, fuel and pcv filters? What is the mileage?

the car is serviced every 8/9000 miles, but I,v never put a pvc filter in[did,nt know they had one]I,v had the car for 90,000 miles and its now got 185,000,i will try and put one in,i,v seen instructions on here and it looks simple enough, although I,m not mechanicaly minded,it will be sometime next week before I can get hold of one but will keep you informed and thanks to all for the help and advice
