Are you sure the connections to the resistor are 100% ok?

the answer would be to put a meter across the gold resistor connections and see if you read a resistance. If you do than the resistor is ok if you don't
it is open circuit and you would have to check with the seller. Since the fan has run since you fitted the resistor it would appear that the fuse link (a metal strap) is intact but you would certainly see if it has blown.

The slow speed circuit isn't completing for some reason. The 'usual high speed' at start-up is due to the aircon being left on and its demand for fan cooling. It should start the slow speed, but since that's unavailable, it will trip on at high speed as emergency cooling. This pulses as the system over-pressurises and then cools. This repeats while aircon is active. Best switched off in these circumstance. Either the slow speed circuit has been modified, or the slow speed relay has failed/missing, or the resistor hasn't been fitted properly.

Thanks for all the replies, I've sorted it temporarily it was my connections that were wrong. Not a lot of room or wire behind the fan and my crimp wasn't quite tight enough.

Thanks again
