Mine’s a 54 plate, and you can’t remove the clips. Slicing a bit off the top of the securing pin lets you pull the pin up and so loosen the clip (so that you can get silicone underneath), but the pins have a “lump” on their bottom end which prevents them coming all the way out, so you can’t actually slide the clip out completely.

Brian solved this problem by (presumably) breaking the pins, then removing the clips, cleaning everything very thoroughly, and sticking aluminium tape over the holes. Finally the clips (now minus the redundant pins) were glued in place to the bodywork with Araldite.

You could try Captain Tolley’s Creeping Crack Cure – it stopped mine leaking for 3-4 years, but now it’s back
