No need to sponge passenger side.
I'm running out of grey sponge though. Any one know where available?
The original slab was packaging for aircraft parts originally.

Black filter sponge or guaze has been suggested from Aquarium suppliers.

Many thanks for the plenum drain solution; the local dealer in Witney had never heard of this being a common concern and had no fix. Do they not read your expert advice? Thanks again, Basil.

Hi Buster
This smell of rotten eggs within the car is sulphuric acid fumes coming from the battery ( which is located near the pollen filter)
This problem arises when a battery is gassing due poss to overcharging- to be on the safe side - check it out with your local battery maintenance dealer.

If Buster had a flooded plenum (btw this was two years ago), the pollen filter would also be a likely source of a sewer-like smell. The wet filter starts to ferment with all the grotty bacteria that lives in there and this pong gets wafted straight into the cab on startup. Flooded plenums, rotting filters and sewers seem to go together.

I agree with you T-Cut. I cleaned out the drain under the ECU last week. It was blocking up again. (We have lots of trees) I used some water while rodding the drain hole some of the clean water got onto the pollen filter which is only 7 Months old. There has been a bit of a pong in the cab as you say.

Default pollen filter

Have just ordered a new pollen filter off e bay, will fit and also check the plenum
The cover clip has snapped on the drivers side, am requiring another one from a scrap yard

Thanks again members for all your advise about the pollen filter and plenum drains

I have been using the grey sponge that computer hard drives are packed in.

a VERY big THANK YOU for the info on clearing the plenums. I finally plucked up the courage to tackle the job properly and found my passenger side one completely blocked by earth and leaves Suddenly it made sense why I had previously hit a barrier with a rodding tool through the hole I'd made to save me doing a full dismantle.

Now I know how to change the Pollen filter as well as get to the drain without fearing it (although relocating the ECU in it's grroves was a tad tricky )

Did this mod today. Had a job on to find it on here though. Can it be added as a "How to" ? Might make it easier for others to find. Only needs a diagram really. I added a few dimensions to it for simplicity
