Loud Rattle on idle
Hi
I appreciate this is probably a difficult question to answer but I have devloped what I can only describe as a loud rattle when the car is at idle. accelerate and it dissapears? Ant ideas on what it could be? Thanks |

First check is the crankshaft pulley. These are a regular cause of low revs rattling. Easy test is to use a hosepipe to spray water onto the pulley during tickover. The rattle usually quietens down as water lubes the rubber interleaf.
A typical pulley past its best. They're not cheap, so get a reliable on from DMGRS here on the forum. TC |

Thanks I'll give that a try, thought the engine was going to pop it was that loud?

That didn't seem to make much difference. Obviously not saying it's not the problem tho!
I'm no machanic but I'm not sure I should be driving it like this can I call the AA for a problem like this? TIA L |

Have you checked your heat shields are not loose and touching the exhaust?

Thanks where will I locate the heat shields? are the under the car or engine bay?

Oh well it seems like the timing chain needs replacing!!! Probably beyond economical repair15 hours at £50ph + parts

Machanic's just had a look it and altough without stripping down can't be 100% sure is 95% sure thats the problem!!!
