I'd say the one in the pic is definitely SS as the colour looks right.
I can't comment on anything else.

Not all stainless is non magnetic, hence it means nothing.

When I welded the replacement turbo outlet stub to mine, I used a MIG with .6mm mild steel wire, CO2/Argon and got a beautiful run.

Certainly wasn't using tri-mix and stainless wire, and didn't end up with a load of spatter either

I thought it was strange to have painted stainless, especially as the original welds were obviously TIG and very neat

I wasn't going to post on this thread but just as a comparison and seeing as Brian has I will. I bought one of the very early Gerry T ones when I had my turbo tourer and the quality was poor, the turbo outlet was welded around the outside and there was so much penetration that the outlet was virtually blocked. I very carefully drilled and filed until I was happy that the flow would be unhindered, unfortunately when fitted it leaked so I fitted a new plastic one and the proper clips. When I raised the quality issue I seem to remember I got a fair bit of grief from members that were happy with their T pieces and was told it obviously leaked as I'd had to modify it

Thanks for the info all, Pab is keeping an eye/ear out for an alternative source and will report back when he knows more.. Back to the plastic tee in the meanwhile though.
Cheers, Karl.

They do have a tendancy it seems to weaken over time - whether due to poor mechanical work being carried out on the car or poor design I can't say. I had to replace my plastic tee a few years back due to leaking but this could have been down to the clips having been over tightened - not sure. Also the car had effectively been laid up for 2yrs at the time, so maybe it had suffered from non use..
Don't think there's much wrong with the original to be fair, just having a stronger item in there is probably beneficial - IF of good quality.

My plastic one had been deformed by cheap pipe clips and probably a gorilla in overalls doing them up at some time in the past. There was also a bit doing the rounds that OAT may be reacting with some of the additives in the plastic and weakening them, although I don't know if this was ever proven one way or the other.

There is nothing wrong with fitting an OEM plastic one but I would replace it after a few years as a preventative measure either by another palstic one or an alloy one.

Re the Spencer Ashley alloy T-Piece sent to the OP. Yes, it looks substandard. Im sure lots have been sold by Spencer Ashley and there will be one or two that can have problems but as said earlier, maybe this is down to a bad welder and not a true representation of the company . Maybe its a quality control problem , maybe it was meant for the bin but posted in error, who knows It's all guess work by us but really the company should be in contact with the OP to resolve the problem.
