Thanks Mike Noc
Are you talking about the 24mm nut here that is in the middle of the tensioner pulley that sits behind the chassis leg?
I have managed to get the belt off now by turning the crankshaft pulley and putting a screwdriver between the belt and pulley while turning.
Now I have the old unit off I see that it has 2 pins on the connector block whereas the new one has 3 pins. Does this matter?
Euro Parts had all the info and the part number they have supplied should be the right one for the car.
These things always happen at the wrong time and this couldn't be worse. Can't do anything more now until I know and I also need to get a new air con belt tomorrow as the other one is well past it's sell by date.

Hi Dave.
I am not 100% on this so please do not quote me, but I think that you can use the 3 pin alternator because either the wiring is not in place or the third pin doe's not do anything.

You could try and compare it with this one on ebay as it gives ref Numbers out.

Thanks a lot for that Arctic.
I have checked them out and the old one is YLE00260 2 pin and the new one is Lucas LRB00470 3 pin and it would seem from the second listing that it is the same.
All I need now is a new air-con belt from somewhere and I will be able to get it all back together again and go away.

Yep that's the one. You need a spanner on the back to hold the bolt too. Had the same thing happen on my diesel auto.

I agree completely with what you say here.-

They started making batteries DOWN to a price. The older, better, batteries were lasting too long which, as we all know, is Bad for business.

Massive thanks to Arctic for his spot on how too.

I've been having alternator problems for a couple of weeks, tried replacing the brushes with the kit from drmgs as its a quicker job, but this repair lasted only 3 days!
Following the guide step by step I had the old unit out in an hour.
I then wasted an hour trying to get the belt back on...thank god there was a drawing of the belt layout!... Finally got it cracked by turning the crank pulley with a socketto run the belt on while holding down the tensioner... Rest was straight forward.
Took me about 3hrs including swear breaks while I was struggling with the belt.....I think it's doable in 2hrs if you get the belt on easy.

I had been quoted £205 plus vat for an alternator and £144plus vat for fitting.
I got one delivered from carparts4less for £91 incl vat and delivery...so money well saved!

Cheers... H

Hi Rav.
I have found some of them but am a bit unwilling to try adding them at the present moment, don't want to take the chance that i get halfway through and the forum flips again as the top brass are trying to sort out some Gremlings.

There are ways from the top
