Default Coolant Leaks and hose clips

Thought the infamous T connector had failed last night when I had steam rising from under the bonnet. When I opened the lid their was a very fine jet of water spouting vertically from, I thought, the T-piece. Almost ordered one on ebay last night but just as well didn't as would have incorrectly got the one with the 4th outlet for turbos where as on mine that outlet is blanked. Anyway on closer inspection today it is in fact the short (4") hose connected to the T-piece which has a hole. So just need to get a bit of hose, looks like 32mm and presumably any car accessory shop would have suitable stuff. I am also puzzled with the hose clips. Not those spring ones which I have seen others asking over where you nip the 2 sticky out bits together. Mine are straight metal bands with a raised bit each quarter of the way round looking almost like they have been crimped on. Is there some trick to removing these or are they just sawn, snipped or prised off by whatever means.

Crimp clip

Use a cutting tool of some sort. Replace with conventional Jubilee type.

Thanks T-cut. I really seem to struggle on here T-cut, just edited then posted without saving! I was trying to attach a pic but maybe not allowed yet or just cannot work it out! Your photo is kinda off what I thought I had but on closer inspection there are two raised bits 45deg apart.
The link to my google photos might work but I can just cut the thing off, just need to be careful not to damage the dreaded T-piece. Already jubilee clip other end.

variations on a theme, but you cut the band basically.

The plastic T-piece is the Achilles heel of the cooling system. Best get rid and get a steel one. These look good: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-Stainl...kAAOSwax5Y0xHs

That's the turbo version, but they do the NA one as well.

You can attach pics if you are a paid up member and your name is in RED.-

Thanks yet again T-Cut. I have looked at that steel T-piece before. He doesn't list the non turbo one but maybe I just need to enquire. Guess if needs be the redundant branch could be easily blocked off with something!
Just need to wait a week now for my length of 32mm hose to arrive, ordered from Ebay!

Just another thought. Two leaks in the hoses now in as many months! Perhaps I should carry some hose repair bandage for emergencies. Never used it before but guess it might get me home in an emergency.

As a quick alternative to 'attachment', you can use a photo hosting site like Photobucket and use the forum's linking system built into the message interface (). Photobucket isn't so convenient these days but there are dozens of others. Google for 'photo hosting' and join one of those, upload your photos and follow the instructions for copying a link. Or simply use the icon to link directly to another site like eBay that has the photo you want to use. That's how I posted the crimp clip and steel T-piece images. You just make a simple link to the place where you found it. I'll explain further if you need the info.

A word of caution. I bought one of the metal 1.8 Turbo T pieces from "the well known internet auction site" but found it would not fit. The angled turbo connector is too big. The internal diameter is 9mm but the rubber hose from the turbo is only 5mm and cannot be stretched far enough to fit. I only realised this when I had already dismantled and removed the plastic T piece. Moral of story: Always check a new part before you remove anything.
