V6 hesitancy at 2800 and 6000rpm
Ladies and Gentlemen, any thoughts on this would be grateful: My ZT 190 was off the road for a while whilst I built up courage to change the clutch slave (oh my that was fun!) and whilst the engine purrs like a kitten it now has a distinct misfire at about 2,800 and 6000 rpm. I say misfire, this isn't like one cylinder drops out, its more like the fuel or ignition cuts out COMPLETELY for a fraction of a second - its that much of a power cut. The engine light flickers for that moment then goes off.
My son has tried going through the leads and swapped the earth cable out for another. Also changed the cam sensor. We did have to change the engine position sensor when we did the clutch as the old one had welded itself into its hole but the replacement was a known good one. Anyone come across this before? |

Yes indeed and to quote an old Ferrari saying (in lower price times) "6000rpm, 7000rpm, 8000rpm, £9,500"

Have you tried a diagnostics reader to see if any fault codes have been stored ?
You might have to erase them all initially to clear any old ones then go for a run , reproduce the misfire and see if any new ones pop up A cheap reader off ebay should suffice if you can't borrow one . .....or download TOAF !

That was my next task Chris but I need to buy one first and I'm supposed to go on hols in a couple of days :-/ Have a message in to Phil T4 to see how much he'd charge to read them.
Thanks for the suggestion. I was hoping someone on here would say "Ah you need to wiggle the widget to the left and that'll fix it" |

Update on cure
So I thought you all might like to know what the problem was? Smelt petrol, so took acoustic cover off engine to find a (big)puddle of petrol in the 'V' of the 6. Further investigation found fuel flooding (sorry) out of the connector to the front fuel rail. When previous owner had the inlet manifold valves dealt with looks like they didn't put all the pipework back together properly because there was only one O ring and it was black not coloured like the originals, suggesting a replacement. Had probably been leaking for some time and gave up the ghost under hard acceleration test runs.
Nice to realise you are driving a ticking bomb! Runs nice now though :-) |

Well done Could have been nasty , but your mpg might now improve as well ; did you put the leaked fuel back in the tank ?

Stop fuelling around
Hah, no I burned it off, thought that would be the quickest way...
It might get used more now that all the fuel is going IN the engine! |
