Front dampers:
RND 105321 / 331 = R40 (K1.8)
RND 105340 / 350 = R40 (KV6)
RND 105360 / 370 = R40 (M47 diesel)
RNB 000400 / 410 = R41 (petrol and diesel)
this is very confusing.
the seller in my ebay link of post #6 has purple brown, would they be ok for a 2001 75 diesel that previoulsy had green/grey fitted.?

even though the sizes quoted for green/grey and purple.brown in post 6 are different, will they still fit ?.

I think that they can all physically fit.
The wider gauge springs mean a stiffer spring (higher spring rate) and as such will be shorter in overall length for a similar ride height to the longer and thinner gauge spring.

The R41 estate is not much heavier than the saloon, but I suppose has differently specified springs for (possibly) heavier load conditions.

But, I agree, it's all very confusing.

Yes the springs will physically fit (all the damper bodies are the same).
Green/Grey spring has a fitted load of 4224N, spring rate of 19.3 N/mm
Purple/Brown spring has a fitted load of 4282N, spring rate 23.5 N/mm
All R75s have the same ride height (hence all these different springs) so the effect of fitting the Purple/Brown will raise the ride height on the front of your car and you will lose a small amount of ride comfort due to the increased spring rate.

On the saloon there are 3 springs for the K1.8, 5 for the KV6 and 3 for the diesel. The 5 springs for the KV6 are made up of 3 from the diesel and 2 from the K1.8
On the estate there are 4 springs: 1 for the KV6, 1 for the diesel and 2 for the K1.8 (with no cross-overs)
