colour code of springs for the 75
I see that front springs for the 75 have colour codes, presumably they're different because of the varying engine weights and the feel of the suspension ( ZT's stiffer), can anyone advise the correct code for a 2001 diesel pls.
The reason I ask is that if i go here: http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-GRID001542 the 75 diesel doesn't seem to be listed. The nearest is reb000890 which is NLA and to use REB000890SLP which is MG. So, i'm a bit miffed. I only want one and want it to match whats already on there, ive checked for paint on the existing and its long gone. TIA Bap |

I've recently fitted these, my originals were blue/green. These are the same spring rate but 15mm shorter than my originals.
Ride is great, just a tad lower. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ROVER-75-F...item565043dc89 I did fit as a pair which is highly recommended. (I presume one of yours is bust.................so the other won't be too clever) Have a look at Norfies very informative post here. http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...=N%2Fmm&page=2 |

Green/Grey and equate to these: ( note the size ) Green/Grey 399.08 mm dia 13.35mm, 19.3 N/mm that info gleaned from here: http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...=N%2Fmm&page=2 but if i go here: http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/content-...le-Information these springs have p/n REB101440 which is NLA but to use REB101440SLP instead ( which isn't colour coded at all ). so, back to the ebay listing here ( as mentioned previously ) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3708109998...84.m1438.l2649 the seller says they're purple yellow which is: Purple/Yellow 348.66mm dia 14.75mm 23.5 N/mm <<< nearly 2" shorter and fatter wire but he also says he has purple/brown and purple/pink which are: Purple/Brown 362.06mm dia 14.75mm 23.5 N/mm and Purple/Pink 375.53mm dia 13.80mm 19.3 N/mm now, according to : http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/content-...le-Information purple pink is for 1.8 petrol and purple/brown is ifor diesel but note the dimensions: Purple/Brown 362.06mm dia 14.75mm 23.5 N/mm which are different dimensions to Green/Grey like ive fitted but are, according to : http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/content--name-Mg-Rover-75-And-Mgzt-Vehicle-Information are for a diesel but also see that that Green/grey used the damper p/n RND105360/70 whereas: the purple/brown spring used damper p/n RNB000400/410. the last thing i want to do is order these springs, strip it all down and find they dont fit. any thoughts |

Complicated innit!
Frankly, the MGR colour coding is beyond the understanding of mere mortals. If the eBay seller says they are for your car, then they'll fit OK. Collating colour codes with damper codes is the way to lose yer sanity IMO. Best-of-British-Rover probably has the encryption key which enables them to say what they say about it all. Many owners simply buy after market springs as cheap as they can find them. They come with no colours and no codes. TC |

Just beware of aftermarket springs. I bought a second spring, to match the one that came with my 75 (mot failure) when I bought it.
The ride height was far too high, and the ride to harsh, which may have contributed to a shattered top mount bearing, which was also new. A very expensive lesson. The incorrect springs were from this company, but supplied through a motor factor. http://www.amkauto.co.uk/suspension/coils.asp |

Just a quick guide into spring colour codes:
Green / any other colour = saloon (R40) Purple / any other colour = estate (R41) Brown / any other colour = MG (saloon and estate) (early cars will have a single colour (pre estate and MG) so use Green / (your colour) for replacements) Front dampers: RND 105321 / 331 = R40 (K1.8) RND 105340 / 350 = R40 (KV6) RND 105360 / 370 = R40 (M47 diesel) RNB 000400 / 410 = R41 (petrol and diesel) Last edited by norfie; 6th June 2013 at 07:12..
