I think David was mainly referring to the bit on the power plug
There is a mute line in the 8 way power plug (the one with the big black wire in). Normally this would be empty. This may have been added by an installer, then cut when the phone system was removed. If this grounds, it will show 'phone mute' and quiet the radio. |

This is the only spare connector behind the radio besides a single red wire which i think is for the IR eye cheers Arctic.

symhony radio phone mute
HI
This is where i stood before i got the great help from Mark (MN190) whom gave me a link to help out with the wire i needed to remove to make the symhony work while i was on the move this lead me to a link which brought on board Dave (R D 1057) whom gave me another link to the wiring i remove which is number one ( Red & Green Wire)on some cars but not on my 2004 Tourer it is No still but the colour is grey & Green Thank you both and every member whom takes time out to add these great bits of info to the site this site is fantastic we can now listen to the radio while traveling to the meet in the morning in our little convoy. These photo's are from the Alpine changer i have and the wiring is different to the wiring in my Tourer 04 plate , No 1 wire on this is Red & Green but No 1 on the Tourer is Grey & Green 1 No 2 orange & Blue 2 No 4 is Purple 3 4 This photo is the ISO from the Tourer No 1 wire is Grey & Green 5 You can see from this photo that the odd numbers are at the bottom of the plug and evens at the top i had to remove the wire from No 1 and the phone mute was removed and i can use the radio i have not checked if it is talking to the changer but i have a feeling it wont be i wll check that another day. 6 To get the wire out of the Grey ISO block you will need a small screw driver and a paper clip in the sdie of the grey block you will see a yellow connector restraint running through the wiring connectors in the plug.fig 1 1 prise the yellow restraint up with the screw driver and remove from block fig 2 2 Next use the paper clip to remove the wiring contact from the block in hole No 1 by pushing it in and releasing the barb fig 3 3 This will allow the wire to be removed easily fron the rear of the grey ISO block this then can be taped up and is not used figs 4/5 4 5 In the above photos the wire is Red & Green on my Tourer it was Grey & Green once i had done this the radio worked on the move i now have to make my mind up if i want to change the CD changer or find a connector which will allow my original changer talk to the symphony thank you for all the help Arctic. All the above can also be found in the links from Dave (R D 1057) whom with out his help along with Mark (M N 190) i would not have a working radio to travel to our meet tomorrow http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...0&postcount=17 http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...21&postcount=2 http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...8&d=1199476749

This is why I like a forum instead of a facebook page.
At the moment I am refurbishing a Rover 75, one of the things was installing an original radio, the Symphony... But that annoying "Phone Mute" caused a lot of frustration.... Thanks to Google I came across this article from 8 years ago, and ... PLOP! Solved! Honor the forum, there is nothing better!
