Default Fast Clicking ?

Ok opened the bonnet today to do the usual winter checks and started the car. I have a clicking noise from 2 places, one the VIS valve (theres a suprise). The one that i was unsure about is on the other side (passenger) of the engine bay and looks like a small cylnder on top of the inlet

Anyone tell me if thats supposed to do it or if its broken

Any help appreciated

Default

the idle solenoid often clicks on the passenger side ..that is normal. The drivers side may be vis motors , but usually it is quite loud and follows the engine revs. If not, some hydraulic valve lifter from Wynns may quieten things. A definite death rattle means advanced vis/manifold faults.
