Strange noise from centre console
Occasionally, maybe only once a month or so when I pull the keys out of the ignition I get a chirping noise which seems to be coming from behind the heater control area. It's definitely an electronic sound rather than mechanical
It goes along the lines of de de de det! I thought it might be something to do with the radio but I haven't had the faceplate on the radio for over two weeks and it suddenly decided to do it this lunchtime. Anyone got any ideas? Car is a ZT diesel Andy |

If it's definately an electrical noise (ie from a speaker or similar) and you have an aftermarket head unit installed then it could be a security feature on the headunit.
I had a Sony head unit that bleeped after you turned the ignition off to alert you to remove the fascia pannel. Usually though, when the pannel was removed it didn't bleep but I suppose some manufacturers may set their units to bleep regardless. As for it suddenly doing it now? I can only think of a dodgy wiring connection... perhaps the power has only just 'connected' itself and hence it has started doing it. Worth pulling the unit out to make sure everything is in pace. As Alex says, the air con does make some strange noises after you switch off. Lots of valves and vents closing and moving around behind the centre console area and they do make a noise! Also can be a CD changer in the glovebox making noises after switch-off too. Hope this helps! |

The head unit is a standard kenwood radio cassette with cd player in the boot. It's strange that it might not do it again for weeks.
It does sound like it's some kind of warning though. I suppose the other possibility is it is something to do with the Nokia handsfree. If no-one else has a similar noise I shall just ignore it. |
