Struggling to get key into ignition
Hi guys
Rover 75 mk1 For the last three weeks in struggling to get the key into the ignition. And it appears to be getting harder. Today it took me 10 min to eventually get the key in so I could go to work. Not sure what's causing this? It just doesn't seem to want to go in at all. Thanks. Ravinder |

I'm not sure if that is the problem. My key does t get stuck, it just doesn't go into the barrel at all on occasions. I may buy some of that stuff anyway and give it a go but not sure if that's the issue.

get a pencil and rub it all over the key blade, then run that in and out of the barrel... the graphite from the pencil will lubricate the tumblers for you

I sprayed in to the ignition barrel with penetrant spray to get mine to work. It can leak out and leave a smell mind, but it's worked well for the last 30,000 miles or so!

Quote:
If they are heavy on oil then this sticks and can attract dirt and grit. If it is light on oil and heavy on propellant then this can wash out any lube in the lock leaving it dryer.... Silicone or graphite are best...

Agree with Klarzy. Our front door lock (house) was suffering in a similar way. I used graphite from a pencil and it's been fine ever since.
