Default Your starter for ten

I have a "light out" symbol on the dash,so the light checking starts. Dipped headlight, nope, main beam, nope, side lights, nope, fog lights nope, indicator side flashers lights, nope ok how about rear lights nope, number plate light, nope. that just leaves the brake lights, the only way I can check these is to remove the rear light cluster on both sides and check the bulbs that way, once again all bulbs seem good, now what

It's not the 'brake light becomes sidelight' trick is it? Check both rear sidelights are in same position on rear cluster.

Have you got a towbar fitted?
The towbar electrics can sometimes cause false 'light out' issues, especially if they've not been wired with a canbus relay.
Other than that there could be some damp in the boot loom or possibly some corrosion on a bulb holder. May be a long search for the cause unfortunately

Check to see if the brake light bulbs are looking smokey.

I've had it that they work fine, but the bulb out warning flags them as duff. When I checked, one of the bulbs was going smokey.... so replaced it and the warning light went out.

The warning light seems to come on if there is a dodgy connection too, although the bulb may work.

Number plate lights, boot/spare wheel stowage area, glove box, loads to search for.

Yep the brake light is smoky I shall change and see, changed still no go. I shall spend a bit more time on this in the morning. I don't have a tow bar fitted and all the other lights in the glove box and boot are all working fine, so, its a process of elimination then

I'm pretty sure the dash warning shows which side and whether front or rear. Sometimes says 'brake light fail' etc.:xmas-smiley-005:

If you have the message centre.... but if not, just shows a picture of a bulb.
